Surgery on your Back
The spinal cord guides important nerves through your entire body. They are extremely important for you to do what you do in life. If something would happen to your spinal cord than this could also affect your nerves. Every person grows older but not everybody will have problems with their back because of degeneration. Because of the degeneration, the spinal cord can become obstructed and this is called a spinal stenosis. When nothing is done about it the patient will live in pain for the rest of his life but luckily there is a very effective treatment for it.
A laminectomy operation is in most cases the best treatment for spinal stenosis. A neurosurgeon, specialized in surgery on your nerves and spinal cord, will in most cases do the surgery. In the early days a back surgery was a major surgery but because of new techniques a laminectomy has become a surgery with much less impact.
The surgeon will make an incision near the stenosis and put a small tube inside your spinal cord. The tube contains a small camera and a laser inside of it. With the help of the camera the surgeron can easily find the exact location and he can remove the stenosis with the help of the laser. After surgery you have to rest in the hospital for one more day to see if there are no complications. If everything is alright than you are ready to go home in order to fully recover.
